Gold Coins vs. Sweeps Coins

What each virtual currency is for, which may be eligible for prize redemption, and why the distinction matters.

6 min read · Updated September 2, 2026

Most sweepstakes casinos use two virtual currencies. They may appear beside each other, but they serve different purposes and should not be treated as interchangeable.

What are Gold Coins?

Gold Coins are normally used for social casino play only. They generally have no monetary value and cannot be redeemed for cash prizes. Operators may provide them free, sell optional packages, or award them through daily login promotions.

What are Sweeps Coins?

Sweeps Coins, Stake Cash, or another operator-specific promotional currency may be used for eligible sweepstakes play. After satisfying the operator's playthrough, verification, location, and minimum-redemption rules, eligible balances may be redeemable for prizes.

Why the distinction matters

A large Gold Coin balance does not mean a large redeemable balance. Before purchasing anything, confirm what is included, whether promotional Sweeps Coins are attached, how many times they must be played, and whether your state is eligible.

What to verify

Check the operator's current terms for currency expiry, playthrough, eligible games, redemption minimums, identity verification, state restrictions, and any maximum prize limits. These rules can change.
